A candle isn’t just a candle.

Many people think candles are such cop-out easy gifts.  In a sense… they can be.  But I actually think they are the BEST gifts.  I love giving them, and I love receiving them and there are some really special ones out right now that I am really digging.

Barneys New York has one of my favorite beauty departments.  Their candle selection is legit. The have Le Labo, Diptyque, Cire Trudon, ElizabethW… and so many more.  I also really love Trish McEvoy’s blueberry vanilla candle.

Here are a few candles that I think have beautiful packaging and would be amazing gifts to give or receive.

Le Labo - Available at Barneys.

Jonathan Adler

Fornasetti Candle. For the true taste maker in your life! Available at Barneys.

Juliska candle. (From their new collection

Michael Aram - Magnolia Candle

D.L. & Co. (their scents are amazing). Available at Barneys.

Prepping for a holiday party!

I spent a good part of the weekend prepping for my holiday party that I am having on the 17th.  I am pretty excited!

I’m going to try to post up my prep process as much as possible, so just to give you a messy sneak peak – I pulled out the leaf for my dining room table (there will be a table cloth) and scattered out my serving pieces to see how the buffet is going to all lay out.  It’s a good idea to lay out your serving pieces in advance to see what you are missing,  so that the day before your guests you aren’t running around like crazy looking for things.

My serving pieces are a combination that I think works really well.  The pair of three-tiered cake stands are from Bed Bath and Beyond that my mom found for me!  Sooo good, right?! (Thanks Ma!).

The white flat pieces are from Home Goods/TJ Maxx, and the white milk glass is all vintage pieces that I have been collecting from flea markets and antique malls.

I’ll be posting a lot more about the preparation for the party (decor, flowers, food, fashion….) – but here is a start!

Pin… Pin… Pinterest… Buffet Inspiration for my Holiday Par-tay!

I am throwing a party next Saturday night. I am so excited, but there is a ton to get done before hand.  So, for the next week there will definitely be a lot of posts about entertaining.  I am doing a large buffet bar of finger foods, and yummies – and here is my inspiration that I’ve pinned from my pinterest page.

Do you have any tricks up your sleeve for entertaining? Please feel free to share and leave a comment below! I’d love to hear about your fabulous fete!

Also – let me know if you need an invite to Pinterest.

I love the variation of heights used on this table. The suitcases give it a great vintage touch.

A feminine and sweet buffet set up.

How fun would a caramel apple buffet bar be?!? Love this idea!

This is such a beautiful way to make a salad bar. It's so fresh and vibrant with all of those colors.

I love this idea for for crudete and dips. This is something I definitely plan on having at my party.

Such a good idea for serving tequila (as long as you know all your guests drink it!!)

Love this vintage bar cart for entertaining! Useful, purposeful, and pretty!

A very clean an pretty appetizer buffet. I like the balance.

Liz Caan Designs in an Unexpected Color Palette

I love the unexpected. Especially when its not off the wall unexpected.  Interior Designer Liz Caan is really good at doing sweet surprises, and what I love about this living room that she recently designed is the color combination.  I never would think to pair hot pink, yellow, and  black with a cherry-ish wood.  This room is modern, cozy, chic and foward!

I love the barn-like sliding door mixed with the yellow painted built-in cubbies.

The purple Amethyst lamp has been one of my favorite lamps for quite some time and you can get it here – at Plantation Design.

Sneak peak at my bedroom.

Its taken me quite a bit of time to figure out the direction for my bedroom.  I knew I wanted a medium/dark gray on the walls, with white bedding and gold accents – but that was pretty much it.  My dresser is one of my favorite pieces of furniture, but it needed some oomphing.  So, this weekend – I got to work!!

Here is how I originally bought it (Craigslist).

Then… It got a good Kils priming coat…

To the finished product! I am going to be ordering a glass top for the top of it to protect it.  I don’t want to have to baby the dresser.

So, now it’s time to style it.  I have a few ideas swirling – right now I am playing with the idea of framing this vintage linen.  I have a few other ideas, I just can’t decide!!  I also wil be moving the vases, I just have them up for the time being.

Tablescape inspirations for a long dresser

Decor for a long dresse or console table can be really tricky.  I currently have my bedroom, chinoiserie inspired dresser and the foyer console that need some serious stylin.  Here are some tablescapes that look fantastic.  I really like the organicc flow, an they don’t feel over designed or stuffy.

For my own space, I  know i don’t want anyhting that will feel messy, or over styled.  So, here are a bunch of long pieces with great accessories.  I am a big fan of the leaning art.  I’ll keep you posted on my own personal projects shortly!!

Jadeite Love

I’ve been a fan of vintage milkglass for quite some time, but a recent spread in Martha Stewart has broadened my horizons and now I’m a huge fan.  Jadeite was really popular in the 50′s, and manufacturers like Fire King,  Jeannette, and McKee are the most desirable makers (if you are interested in collecting the good stuff).
Well…. My kitchen is my least favorite room in my home – and I think I’ve finally found the inspiration and direction the room is going to go in.  Here’s some great pics that hopefully will lead to my kitchen getting into great shape!

A beautiful collection o vintage jadeite and milk glass.

A stunning table setting using accents of jadeite.

A massive collection of vintage jadeite. (image via here)

I love these two small jadeite dishes with the gold feet. Quite elegant.

I came across this mint green painted cabinet in an antique mall in Long Beach. I am loving this color more and more as I come across it in different settings.

This kitchen is absolutely gorgeous. It's the inspiration for my kitchen right now. Love. (image via here)

Jadeite cake stand available at Fish Seddy.

Another piece of metal painted furniture that I came across at a long Beach antique mall. This color was very popular in the mid-century.

Jadeite pair of vintage lamps at the Rose Bowl Flea Market.

Pin..Pin..Pinterest… The best of ORGANIZATION!

I try to be an organized person….BUT – there are two exceptions.  1. When I can’t figure out what to wear – I tornado my bedroom and putting it all back is a nightmare.  2. When I am home visiting my parents in Miami.  There is an accent chair right next to the door of my closet, and I just lay EVERYTHING on this chair.  It’s terrible.

But, for the most part – I try to keep it together.  Pinterest has many inspiring ideas for keeping organized and here are some of my favorites!

ALSO – if you need a pinterest invite, leave your email address and I can hook you up!

My jewelry drawer is in good shape, but this makes mine look so weak. I love this like you wouldn't believe!

I think this is such a cute idea, especially if you don't have a lot of drawer space in your kitchen. OR you could do this for buffet style entertaining.

I don't love the font used, but I do like how it's all organized by category. This makes it so easy to find products when they are grouped together properly.

If you like to wrap gifts, this is a great idea. You can use a mulit-row pant hanger to keep all of your ribbons neatly in place.

I love these drawer liners from Hammocks and High Tea.

My mom has this in her bathroom and its brilliant. She never has to deal with cords hanging out every where. I do think she has a power strip though and not just a two plug. Still - such a good idea.
