Dreaming of a Weekend Vacay…

Let’s take a little trip.  I am feeling the mid-week blues – so lets plan a little get-away to

PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA!

Just a two hour drive from Los Angeles – and you can be in the fun, sunshine-filled, mid-century world!  It’s golf, pool, fab shopping, and great meals.  What else could you ask for!?  So, here is a little guide of where I’d go, stay, do, and wear!  If you have been before – and have some suggestions of great places – please do share!

Dazzles: Mid-century furnishings, and an extensive collection of bake-lite jewelry, glass, blenko, tiki-culture, bamboo, bar ware and more.  It really is a fun store to look at gorgeous pieces! 1035 N. Palm Canyon Dr. 760-327-1446

Bon Vivante: Mid-century home accessories, extensive collection of brass figurines and glass barware.  The owners really know their stuff and love to talk shop!  457 N. Palm Canyon Dr. (located in the Galleria Shops) 760-323-4576

Bon Vivante has amazing mid-century home accessories!

Trina Turk Residential: If you love her clothes, you will love her ‘Resident’ shop.  Great selection of books, trinkets, Trina for Schumacher Pillows, Garden stools and more (and its right next to her clothing store). 895 N. Palm Canyon Dr. 760-416-2856

Trina Turk Residential is on the top of my list of favorite spots. The boutique is curated so well. You will definitely not leave empty handed.

This is my "work-in-progress" living room. The zig zag pillows are Trina Turk for F Schumacher - my favorite purchase from Trina Turk Residential

Revivals: If you are looking for budget friendly, yet really cool pieces that may need a little paint, or new upholstering, then definitely hit up Revivals.  They have several locations – but I definitely recommend you stopping in here.  Very cool stuff.

Beaumont:  Beaumont is a town about 40 minutes before you reach Palm Springs (coming from LA) which has some really cute antique malls.  Check out this link to learn more: HERE

I personally love staying at The Parker (Shocker…) or the Miramonte Resort and Spa – which is actually in Indian Wells (approximately 15 minutes from Downtown Palm Springs).  It really all depends on what type of trip I am going for.  If it’s to unwind, completely relax and layout by the pool – then for sure – Miramonte!  But, If I’m “Palm Spring-in” it up – the The Parker is perfection.

The lobby of The Parker is so tongue-in-cheek happy!

Relaxing and The Parker... not too shabby!

The Parker – 4200 E. Palm Canyon Dr. Palm Springs, CA 92264   760-770-5000

The Miramonte has an amazing spa, great pool, and the rooms are beautiful. It's not funky, or mid-century, but if all you want to do is unwind and get centered; I recommend this spot for sure.

The Miramonte - 45000 Indian Wells Lane.  Indian Wells, CA 92210  760-341-2200

Elvis’s Honeymoon Hideaway:  I have never done this tour before, but It is 100% on my list for next time!! This is the honeymoon home that Elvis and Priscilla had.  It’s a mid-century modern buff’s dream!

Elvis & Priscilla's bedroom.

Spas are always fantastic options to relax and unwind on vacation.  The Estrella at the Viceroy and PSYC at The Parker are both phenominal and will not disappoint.

Estrella - the Spa at The Viceroy Palm Springs is fantastic, and definitely hit up Citron after for a glamorous meal (the entire hotel was designed by Kelly Wearstler).

Desert Hot Springs – Mineral Pools: This is one thing Ihave never done before, but would love to experience.  The Desert Hot Springs are known for their mineral water deep down under ground.  This water is pumped into pools all over Desert Hot Springs for people to enjoy the calming, soothing, and mineral components.

This is the grotto at Two Bunch Palms, a boutique resort and spa.

Palm Springs has great dining options:

Cheekys: An amazing spot for breakfast/lunch – with EVERYTHING on the menu – but be prepared, there is a huge crowd and a little bit of a wait!  But well worth it.  622 N. Palm Canyon 760-327-7595

Purple Palm: This is a fab dinner restaurant and a great spot for drinks.  Located in the Colony Palms Hotel, and make sure to request a table near the pool.  The decor is chic, designed by my fave: Martyn Lawrence Bullard.

Copley’s: Staying true to Palm Springs…. Copley’s is a great option for dinner as its location is in Cary Grant’s former vacation home.  The menu serves up delicious California fare – and it does not disappoint!

Have fun!

A really cool person lives here…. A fab home office

Exposed brick, straight lines, with mid-century touches.
This definitely is the home office belonging to one very cool person
with a whole lot of style.

Grandma Chic – and I love it!

“What is ‘Grandma Chic’?” you ask.
It’s a mixture of interesting swag lights, random-tongue-in-cheek wall art, bargello and needlepoint pillows, zippy wallpaper, and vintage/mid-century furniture finds all mashed up together – making a chic little mess.
And – I am totally feeling it.

Turquoise and yellow office… with a dash of Honey.

Tamara-Kaye Honey of House of Honey knows how to design a room and I am a HUGE fan of hers!  I love how she incorporates amazing vintage finds and really know show to work with color palettes.  This is an office she recently designed in S. Pasadena.  It really is a special place.  I can only imagine the creativity that comes out of this office.

Gorgeous!

Great Craigslist Find.

Lately I have been disappointed with the LA Craigslist scene.  Because I have really had some amazing scores in the past!  BUT – tonight I cam across this mid-century modern, chrome, standing lamp and have put my faith back in the good CL.  The link is below.
Southern Cali people: Get this off Craigslist – HERE’s the link $99

From the personal file… Commune… Part 3

This will be my final post on Commune (for the time being!), and this home hit the “personal file” spot for me. It actually belongs to one of the founders of Commune, Alonso Romano – I LOVE his style and his ideas with home style. His home was featured in the most recent issue of House Beautiful and you can check out the article HERE.
Romano is an LA guy with a great passion for easy living. He loves Folksy” fabrics and pillows (hence I love that too!) and has a serious interest in mid-century furnishings. I am a huge fan of layering (I feel like I mention it in every post!) and he does an excellent job.
His living room is one of my favorite rooms of all time. I LOVE the floor cushions, the rug, and the over sized mid-cenury chair.

Here is another view of his living room. Are you loving, or what??

PS – I also LOVE that you can totally achieve this look through vintage and flea market finds!!!

The Brilliant People at Commune part 1

Since starting up this blog, my personal style has TRULY evolved.  I have learned so much about layering, the colors and finishes I like, the type of accessories I enjoy, and have learned a lot about space, lay out, and scale.

I LOVE when I learn of design firms that are absolutely brilliant – and that would be COMMUNE, and LA based design firm who have residential and commercial clients including the Ace Hotel, Barneys, Juicy Couture, YaYa Aflalo, KiKi De Montparnasse, Oliver Peoples, Heath Ceramics and many more.

I am going to be doing several posts on some of their amazzzing spaces.  Here is part 1 – an LA residence.

I adore this room.

An unreal outdoor dining experience.

Love all of the layering in this room of mid-century fabulousness!

Just throw it all together!

I’ve read in multiple places that the best rule of thumb when shopping at antique shops, vintage stores, flea markets and antique malls is to buy what you love – and you will make it work.
Here is the perfect example of that!

I would love to have those wire chairs.  How amazing!?!

High glossy accent chair with tufting – brilliant!

Ottoman love.

Best Kept Secret…. and a little story!

I am not one to give all my sources… but for you Glam Readers…. I’ll share this one…

So… today – I was on my way to Home Depot, and traffic was weird, so I started going alternate routes to get there.  When I noticed this random mid century-ish sofa sitting outside a store front.  So, I looked and noticed this could be a possible gem.  And of course – my intuition was dead on.  This shop had the most amazing vintage/mid century finds (and some random appliances – but forget that part)!  I grabbed a few pics for you, and a business card and went on my merry way!
So – if you are ever in the LA/Hollywood area – you gotta hit this spot up!
Hernandez Furniture & Appliance
6208 Santa Monica Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90038
323-962-7821
There’s a pair of these.  They are even more amazing in person.

Everything in this store is in amazing condition.  There is no junk, and the prices are good for how amazing the stuff is!!

These lamps…. all I can say.  They are like art.
this picture is weird. the furniture is all stacked so these are all on top of each other.
